Mary L Bernal’s love of Mexican food began in her youth. A Houston-area native, Bernal spent her childhood summers with relatives outside Guadalajara, Mexico, learning and perfecting the authentic dishes that she continues to serve today at the Spanish Flowers Mexican Restaurant. Since its debut in 1979, this 24-hour hot spot, has been pleasing palates and creating a devoted following. (Even her staff is a part of the family with many working with her for more than 20 years.) In 2009, the restaurant comes to embrace the Hernandez family, who in coalition with Mrs. Bernal, have managed to expand and nurture the dream born back 1979 by continuing the legacy of providing Houstonians the authentic dishes they've come to grow and love.
